Burmese Mahogany is a handsome wood representing the true beauty of mahogany. Colour varies from golden brown to reddish brown, turning darker on exposure. Generally free from knots and blemishes. The grains are interlocked, producing narrow regular stripes or rosy figures on quarter sawn faces. Moderately fine and even texture.
DISTRIBUTION
The species is reported to be found in evergreen and tropical hill forests of Myanmar.
COMMON USES
A good quality timber for decorative applications. Used for high quality furniture, boat building, walking sticks and mathematical instruments. Suitable for panelling and flooring. Good for decorative interior finishing and cabinets.
DURABILITY
The heartwood is reported to be durable under cover and resistant to termites.
