General Description

The heartwood colour varies from pink brown, red brown or grey brown to dark red. It darkens after prolonged exposure. The wood is reported to have a fine to very fine texture and to be somewhat lustrous.

Distribution

Various species in genus are reported to be distributed in the Indo-Malaya region and extend into Australia, the Philippines and Indonesia. Six of the species are reported to be represented in the rocky shores, lowland, and hill or mountain forests in the Malay Peninsula.

Common Uses

The heavy hardwood is commonly used in bearing and bushing, heavy construction, flooring, building material, machinery parts, cabin construction and umbrella handles.

Durability

The heartwood is reported to be generally resistant to attack by decay fungi and termites.
